I'll Meet You Half Way
I’ll Meet You Half Way explores the separation of mind and body by using the human form in motion to create still images through a variety of visual styles. By using the physical body's movement and reactions, I aim to convey the emotional and psychological distance that can occur when the mind and body feel disconnected — an experience that varies from person to person.
When making I’ll Meet You Half Way, I used techniques such as long exposure, digital solarization in Photoshop, and scanning methods with a Betterlight Scanning Back attached to a large format camera. With long exposure, I evoke a sense of visual blur, representing the sensation of constant spinning or disorientation that the mind can produce. Solarization allows me to manipulate color in a way that feels unnatural — mimicking the look of x-rays, thermal scans, ghostly apparitions, and psychedelic visuals. These altered colors are meant to challenge the viewer’s perception and tap into the associations of colors and internal experiences. Using the Betterlight Scanning Back enabled me to produce images by creating the feelings of being in multiple places simultaneously. This technique distorts the human form, visually expressing the fragmented feeling of existing across different mental or emotional states.
